Android 7.1 roll-out date confirmed?
If you remember Google announced that the official roll out of the updated version of their latest Android OS (Android Nougat) in earlier December. There was not  specific date mentioned, all though Google has still not announced the final date for the release of the OS, a major telecom operator has revealed the date.

“Vodafone Australia” has gone live with a dedicated webpage that details the Android 7.1 Nougat rollout for its Nexus 6P will begin on December 6. It mentions that the OTA update is about 650MB in size and will roll out incrementally to the users in the country. The details even include the schedule of the entire rollout, with 10,000 Nexus 6P users selected at random receiving the update in the first 3 days. The update will be rolled out to 10 percent of the remaining users daily over the next 10 days, with all eligible devices slated to receive the update within 14 days i.e. by December 19.

Notably, Google recently released the Android 7.1 Nougat Developer Preview 2 for the Nexus devices. "With Developer Preview 2, you can make sure your apps are ready for Android 7.1.1 and the consumers that will soon be running it on their devices," the company said in a note to developers. Google will be rolling out Android 7.1.1 to the full lineup of supported Nexus devices as well as Pixel and Pixel XL devices, in addition to General Mobile 4G Android One smartphone and the Nexus Player as well.

Android 7.1 will be rolled out in phases

Like with all things Google, the update will be rolled out progressively. From days 1-3 only 10,000 phones are selected at random to be eligible for the update and their owners will be alerted via FOTA Push Message or will need to manually check for the same from the Settings menu.

From day 4-13, an additional 10 percent of owners will qualify for the update and this would depend upon users as they would need to manually check to receive the same.

From day 14 all devices will become eligible to receive the update. So, for those who cannot wait, it is wise to keep checking so that your handset qualifies for the limited selection.

The update packs in Android security patch level for 5 December 2016. The build number as per the website is NMF26F. The update is said to be approximately 650MB in size.
