Apple is planning BIG last minute change for iPhone 8
When it comes to the naming of iPhone models, the name of next model is always confusing as after the number jump Apple added S model to it. for example, after iPhone 6 its was iPhone 6S, where S indicated the upgraded version of the previous model.

From then onwards, it’s always a bit of a guessing game, trying to work out what Apple will name its next smartphone. In recent times, we’ve come to expect a tick-tock naming protocol, where a number name device (like iPhone 6) is followed a device with the letter ‘S’ tacked on the end (like iPhone 6S). This allowed Apple to reserve big changes for new-number models while offering more incremental upgrades on an ‘S’ model.

As we all know that the iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus are getting unveiled in a couple of weeks' time, and we thought we knew what the phones were going to be called too, but a couple of different rumors over the weekend suggests Apple is changing its mind about what monikers these handsets will ship with.

Going back to the earlier strategies of naming the iPhone, Apple may be scrapping that system of adding S this year, as per the new report. Specialist Apple blog 9to5mac has published a report that details conversations with iPhone case makers from Shenzhen, China, which were undertaken during this week’s IFA 2017 tech trade show in Berlin.

As per the report published by 9to5Mac from the sources of those case makers, who have been kept anonymity, for obvious reasons, the following names will be given to three new smartphone models launching out of Apple HQ later this month:

iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus

So, basically as per the report we are expecting the name change of all the three models of iPhone that will be launched in the event of 12th September. Now iPhone 7S will become the iPhone 8, and the iPhone 7S Plus will become the iPhone 8 Plus.

As per the earlier reports as well, many reports from the different sources claimed that iPhone 8 is actually going to be called the iPhone X, when it gets shown off to the world - X as in 10, as in the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. This device would have bonus features, including an OLED display and an all-screen front design.

That theory is looking increasingly correct, although the naming may have been a little off. It certainly makes more sense to have iPhone 8 as the standard name and use the ‘Edition’ term to denote a special model as we saw with the gilded Apple Watch Edition, for instance.
