Airtel is going to launch 4G Smartphone in INR 2000 to counter JioPhones
The battle in Indian telecom sector is on the top and the biggest battle is currently between Airtel and Reliance Jio. We have seen the fight for the price of data packs between these two big telecom giants and now when Reliance Jio is in the mobile segment with JioPhones, Airtel is all set to counter them with their low-cost Android smartphone.

As per the reports, Airtel is planning to take on JioPhone by launching its own low-cost 4G smartphone. Bharti Airtel is already in talks with domestic handset makers and would launch the phone at Rs 2000.

However, according to a report published in India Today, the Airtel's 4G smartphone could be launched in October.

Recently released jioPhones got a huge response from the users and considering the huge demand company has stopped taking pre-orders of the device which started the 24 August 2017. According to industry estimates, six million bookings have been recorded for JioPhone, that offers free voice calls and SMS for life. Unlimited data offering comes for Rs 153 per month. While the details such as the name of the handset makers that Airtel is negotiating with and the exact offers on the anvil are still under the wraps, it is learned that the Sunil Mittal company will co-promote the 4G smartphone with the manufacturers.

While the JioPhone comes with Reliance Jio branding, Airtel is unlikely to do so. It may be recalled that Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal had said in one of the company’s investor calls earlier this year, “I want to clarify the difference between bundling versus discounting and subsidising. We do not brand handsets on our own. We do not subsidise. We do not manage the inventories. We work with different device players to bundle.”

“Firstly, I think we have traditionally and historically, been of the view that the device market must be treated as a really open ecosystem. We partner with all devices. One of the things that we have stayed away from, and we have no intention to get into is subsidising devices, manning the device inventories and running these devices like they belong to us. That is something that we do not like doing,” he had said.

Specifications of Airtel Smartphone
